Atheists can you please not refer to religious people as stupid?

Question

It's at no fault of their own they were born into a religious household and indoctrinated at an early age.

Chances are many of these people would be intelligent free thinkers if it were not for religious indoctrination. Calling someone for stupid for this reason is simply not true.

You are honestly one of the only atheists I've heard of criticizing religious people. I hear rumors and things but usually atheists are some of the most understanding and accepting people I've ever met. I'm very sorry this isn't the case with you. I was born into a religious household. 13 years of Catholic school, Church every Sunday, the works. Something I would like to add, our science teachers were nuns. We were taught evolution by nuns in a Catholic gradeschool. In my Catholic high school, we were required to take a class called world religions, where we learned about the many other religions around the world, including atheism and agnosticism. They taught us to keep an open mind. The Catholic Church prepared me to pave my own road, involving religion or not. They also prepared us for dealing with tiny, closed minded assholes who criticized us for what we believe in. But that's all I have to say. The image you've created for yourself and atheists in general will do enough damage.

Your premise is untrue. My parents were not atheists; they just had no interest in religion at all. My mother forbade me to attend church on the grounds that people would talk if I went alone. I was as far from being indoctrinated as you could be for someone whose only contact with Christianity was that we had a pagan Christmas tree.

I went away to college for my last two years and I sneaked off to go to church. Mother never called early because I told her I partied Saturday night. She thought I was hung-over, not sitting in church.
