Depending on what books you are buying, I'd check the local library. Most of the books we use in homeschooling are very specific to a certain topic and I wouldn't want to spend that much money buying books we may use for a couple of weeks then put on a shelf to collect dust. We often check out 20-30 books every week from the library.

Most public libraries belong to a network of libraries where you can request books from other libraries (in-state) for free.

If you find that you're buying a lot of topic-specific books (ancient Rome or World War II, atomic theory or bears), see what the library has first. Then order online what you need to fill any gaps (check Froogle.com).

EBAY. I used to spend all my money on Stephen King hardcovers (there are ALOT) and on Ebay it was easy to find them under $10 a piece and people also like to sell them in groups for cheap. If you REALLY want to save money, but don't mind taking up two hours and getting an allergic reaction, then you can go to Goodwill or Salvation Army and search the books, they have what you are looking for. You just have to really ******* look for it lol

I agree Half.com from E-bay i sos disgutingly cheap it's great. I used to buy my books at Media Play, but the store closed here. Sometimes I used to buy brand new books for a dollar.

Rather than buy them individually, compile a list of books and buy them in bulk online. They usually waive the shipping and sometimes give a discount.

If you are talking of books to read for entertainment, and not educational, go to consignment shops or Goodwill. I buy all my books there. They have a good selection and you can find them in good condition. I only buy the ones that are in good condition.

A good website is: www.bestbookdeal.com

However, usually, websites should offer you automatically a discount if you are bulk buying.

Try a used book store. There are several out there. You can also purchase books on-line really cheap. Try eBay. They have everything. Good luck.

if you buy lots of books then you may want to consider buying books from India at http://www.firstandsecond.com/ --> it works out cheaper for bulk books.
